Sensor parts

Several elements of Atrim OmniSensor will be referred to in this and other guides.

Connect to Z-Wave hub

To set up Atrim OmniSensor and connect it to your Z-Wave hub:

  1. Detach OmniSensor's Rear Cover by turning it counter clock-wise.
  2. Remove and recycle the plastic tab which blocks battery connectivity. If not already communicating with a Z-Wave hub, your sensor's LED will fade between different colours for 2 cycles and then turn off. If it is already communicating with a Z-Wave hub that is not your own, you will need to reset OmniSensor - refer to 'Disconnect from Z-Wave network' and 'Factory reset Atrim OmniSensor' below for further information.
  3. Move your sensor to be physically within 3 metres / 10 feet or less of your Z-Wave hub. This is only temporary and will help your sensor and hub establish a secure connexion.
  4. Connect your sensor to your hub:
    • If your hub is running Home Assistant, dedicated instructions are avalable at 'Connect OmniSensor to Home Assistant'.
    • If your hub is running SmartThings, dedicated instructions are avalable at 'Connect OmniSensor to SmartThings'.
    • If your hub's app supports Z-Wave SmartStart QR code scanning:
      1. Activate the app's SmartStart scanner.
      2. Scan the SmartStart QR code upon Atrim OmniSensor. It is located beside OmniSensor's Battery Compartment.
Your sensor will now connect to the Z-Wave network and hub automatically.
    • If the app does not support SmartStart QR code scanning but the hub's software does support manually entering SmartStart codes:
      1. Enter the software's 'add device' via SmartStart feature.
      2. Enter the alpha-numeric string located under the SmartStart QR code into your software's interface.
Your sensor will now connect to the Z-Wave network and hub automatically.
    • If none of the above options are available with your system:
      1. Set your hub into its ‘add device' mode.
      2. Press Atrim OmniSensor's Action Button 3 times within 1.5 seconds.
      3. When your sensor successfully connects to your hub its LED will flash green 5 times. Should it not, repeat the above steps and contact us for further help if needed.
  5. Reattach and secure Rear Cover to OmniSensor.

Atrim OmniSensor is now a part of your home automation system. You can configure it and its automations through your hub's software; please refer to the system's user guide for precise instructions.

It's now time to determine where best to install OmniSensor.

Optimising installation location

Where you place Atrim OmniSensor will determine the accuracy of its 3 sensors.

  • It should not be installed in areas of artificial or sudden temperature change. When selecting an installation location, avoid placing OmniSensor beside or near air conditioners, humidifiers, and heaters. Also avoid installing it directly opposite a window or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid installing it upon a metal frame or on a large metallic object. Such placement may weaken OmniSensor's wireless networking.
  • Install it approximately 2.5 metres / 8 feet above the floor and tilt the OmniSensor accordingly such that it monitors areas where people frequently move.

Using the above best-practices, determine an installation location for your Atrim OmniSensor. We recommend testing your sensor at the selected installation location prior to completing a permanent installation using screws. To do this, temporarily mount it to your chosen object utilising double-sided or removeable tape. After a period of successful operation proceed to affix Atrim OmniSensor using the provided screws if so desired. Installation using screws is not required and most users will utilise double-sided tape only.

Physical installation

Atrim OmniSensor can be mounted upon the chosen surface using double sided tape or screws. Installation must utilise the Magnetic Base and screws should be installed through the base's screw holes.

Waking Atrim OmniSensor

Battery-powered Z-Wave products need to be active (awake) in order to receive new configurations from a Z-Wave hub. Atrim OmniSensor wakes automatically and periodically in order to optimise its battery life, however, you can also manually wake it for immediate configuration changes.

  1. Separate the front of Atrim OmniSensor from its Rear Cover.
  2. Press and hold the Action Button for 3 seconds. The LED will flash once indicating your sensor has woken up.
  3. When done, re-affix the front of your sensor to its Bottom Cover.

Your sensor will automatically return to battery-saving mode (sleep) after 10 seconds.

Disconnect from Z-Wave network

If you wish to remove Atrim OmniSensor from your automation system, follow your system's interface for excluding Z-Wave products.

  1. Separate the front of Atrim OmniSensor from its Rear Cover.
  2. Set your system's software to its device removal mode.
  3. Rapidly press the Action Button 3 times within 1.5 seconds.
  4. When your sensor has been successfully disconnected from the system, its LED will flash red 5 times.
  5. Remove the battery from OmniSensor if storing it for a period of time.
  6. When done, re-affix the front of your sensor to its Bottom Cover.

Factory reset Atrim OmniSensor

If Atrim OmniSensor is already connected to your automation system, only perform these steps should the standard removal procedure, as described above, fail or should your system be otherwise inoperable. Factory resetting Atrim OmniSensor while it is still connected to a system will result in a phantom version of your sensor appearing within your system which cannot then be removed or otherwise altered.

  1. Ensure sensor is powered on.
  2. Separate the front of Atrim OmniSensor from its Rear Cover.
  3. Press and hold Action Button for 12 seconds and then release.
  4. The LED will flash an alternating pattern of red and green colours for 5 seconds if the factory reset was successful.
  5. When done, re-affix the front of your sensor to its Bottom Cover.

Changing the battery

  1. Separate the front of Atrim OmniSensor from its Rear Cover.
  2. Insert one, new, non-rechargeable CR123A battery.
  3. When done, re-affix the front of your sensor to its Bottom Cover.
